When to turn off underfloor heating in spring

With the warmer summer months approaching, many people are starting to consider their heating; spring is the ideal time for this assessment. The optimal time to switch off your underfloor heating (UFH) in the spring will depend on many factors, including your personal preferences, the weather and how well your home is insulated. Read on to learn more.

Use your thermostat

Like traditional heating systems, UFH works with a thermostat. An easy method is to set your UFH thermostat for around 18°C to 21°C. As a result, heating systems will switch on and off as needed to maintain a comfortable temperature.

Can you switch off UFH in summer?

To keep your home cool and conserve energy, UFH can be turned off over the summer. However, if you have a hydronic system, also known as warm water or wet UFH, ensure that you turn on your solution for about 15 to 20 minutes every few weeks to prevent your system from sticking and to identify any issues.

Switching UFH back on in autumn

After summer is over, you’ll need to get your system back up and running. When switching on UFH after an extended period where it has been inactive, you should always turn it back on employing the same steps that you took when your heating system was initially installed.
