Oxfordshire property modernised with underfloor heating

A luxury Oxfordshire home has recently entered the property market in the picturesque village of Checkendon. A four-bedroom residence that includes its own swimming pool, the house has doubled its footprint under its current owner, who is an architectural designer.

Once a Victorian villa, the home now included the latest innovations in contemporary living, including a cutting-edge heating system. Since moving in back in 2017, the designer has consistently updated the decoration of the village home.

Many period features of the villa had been lost over the years since its initial construction in the 1800s. However, features like sash windows and period architraves and cornicing were returned to their former glory.

While these high-end architectural details were reinstated, new technology and building practices were introduced to bring the building in line with the high-spec living standards desired today in luxury homes. The property was exceptionally well insulated, and an underfloor heating system was installed to maximise its energy efficiency credentials.

Underfloor heating works to offer considerable savings on annual energy bills, but this effect can be far greater still when homes are properly insulated. However, when installing a radiant heating system, fitters must remember to also insulate the equipment as well as rooms. Otherwise, valuable heat can be lost into the subfloor, resulting in longer warm up times and increased energy use.
