Kettering Arts Centre in Northamptonshire is currently experiencing a major redevelopment.
Work to the building based on Lindsay Street in the town of Kettering began in January this year, and is expected to be completed in May.
The centre has played host to many famous faces of the town, including comics James Acaster and Jack Dee, and recently named Kettering native and celebrity vicar The Reverend Richard Coles as its patron.
The arts centre is based within St Andrew’s Church, which has been the heart of Kettering’s community for close to 150 years. With the aim of celebrating this important milestone back in 2020, a commitment was made to redevelop the church and create a space that is practical, accessible, safe and also warm.
Since plans were made, the centre has raised more than £350,000 to help fund the renovations, which will include construction of a new stage, flooring and an underfloor heating (UFH) installation.
The heaters present on the church’s walls were deemed ineffective and noisy, and mainly heated the side aisles - areas which were largely unused. Project leaders decided to install an underfloor heating system that would be able to warm the entire interior of the centre. Plans include running the system using sustainable and ecological means.
To complement the underfloor heating system, new non-slip ceramic tiles will be used that have excellent heat conductivity compared to the original parquet flooring installed.
