A former police headquarters in the north of Yorkshire has been reimagined as an outdoor activity centre called Newby Wiske Hall. While the site once provided a base for the Yorkshire constabulary, it will now be run by PGL and feature 20 different activities including jumps, laser tag and zip wires.
PGL opted to retain the attractive features of the Victorian era building, but were determined to bring the construction up to date using an innovative and modern approach to its design.
CEO for PGL, Anthony Jones, commented:
“We have spent a great deal of time ensuring that each aspect of Newby Wiske Hall was exciting and adventurous for children and a great experience for teachers, with the new concepts indoors, and the amazing activities in the beautiful grounds of the hall outside.”
At the very heart of the hall’s design is accommodation and lounges for leader with rooms featuring brand-new ‘bunk pods’, which are individual sleeping spaces that children can climb into. Fully adjustable LED lighting ensures that each child can also customise their bed area. Advanced technology was also used for security. All rooms can be accessed via key cards, with teachers accompanying students supplied with master key cards for their rooms.
To offer optimum comfort for guests staying at the hall, PGL selected to install an underfloor heating system throughout the entire activity centre supplying radiant warmth within.
