Kingston Lacy, a national landmark and country house in Wimborne, Dorset, will soon enjoy improved facilities onsite.
Approval was recently awarded by Dorset Council to the National Trust estate’s landowners to carry out work on various features on the premises. These include changing room facilities and updates to the current car park.
The plans will see additional parking spaces included for disabled use and more effective drainage. At present, guests of the house, which dates to the 1600s, are required to queue outside, but there are plans to construct a brand-new welcome building.
Commenting on the refurbishment, a National Trust spokesperson stated:
“We’ve been working hard behind the scenes to ensure Kingston Lacy stays open for everyone throughout the upgrade. We’ll do all we can to minimise the disruption, but inevitably there’ll be necessary changes to visitor routes, and some areas may be inaccessible.”
Another key part of the plan will see changing room facilities and toilets installed. It will also be designed to better suit buggy and wheelchair users.
The main toilet block will boast a brand-new layout and benefit from radiant floor heating. Underfloor heating systems are used prevalently when upgrades are carried out on period properties across the UK. As equipment is never in sight, it is unable to spoil the aesthetics of buildings that date from past eras, while still supplying the latest innovations in commercial and domestic heating.
