Berkshire church renovates with UFH

The All Saints Church in Wokingham, Berkshire recently received a grant of £250,000.

The church welcomed the essential funding, which is helping its plans for much needed renovation. The grant comes from a government fund of £42 million, which has been allocated to conserve places of worship across the country with listed status.

Commenting on the grant, the leader of the refurbishment project for All Saints (Dubbed “spaceforall”), Anne King, said:

“We simply could not have done the work without the VAT grant. The refund of £250,000 was essential and, importantly for our cash flow, always paid promptly. We can now run concerts, community drop ins and a lively café, as well as enjoying worship in beautiful surroundings.”

According to the department of culture, media and sport, the church in Wokingham is one of 4,900 listed places of worship to receive financial aid from the dedicated grant last year. The church’s spaceforall initiative is designed to transform the church into a valuable community space for people living in the town of Wokingham, but ensuring it is still active as a place of worship.

The total cost of the work upon completion is expected to be around £1.3 million. A government spokesperson stated that £112,0000 of the grant was put towards a more accessible entrance and toilet facilities and restoration of the church’s Copeman Hart organ. The funds were also used to finance an underfloor heating installation to All Saints, creating a more comfortable environment for parishioners and members of the public using it as a community hub.
